Chris Chelios retires after 26 years of NHL action and 3 Stanley Cups.  “I guess I’ve been dreading this day for a long time,” he said at a news conference in Detroit.

The 46 year old spent time in the National Hockey League as well as some time with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League. Chelios has played for 4 teams including the Canadiens, Blackhawks, Red Wings and the Thrashers, just last year. Chelios decided to take a job in the NHL with the Red Wings front office helping to develop players.

Chelios had a long career in which ranked him 2nd all-time in defenseman with 2,891 penalty minutes. When Chelios was asked about that, he had this to say : “I hope you’ll forgive me for the things I did to some of the players on your teams.”
